SA, US commit to strengthening economic relationship
As South Africa prepares to host the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) Forum, government says renewing AGOA ahead of its expiration in September 2025 is a top priority.
Trade, Industry and Competition Minister, Ebrahim Patel, says both countries remain committed to improving trade and investment and strengthening the economic relationship between the two countries.
Patel is briefing the media ahead of the Forum in Sandton. "The common African position is to have AGOA renewed for an additional 10 years, to seek a number of refinements where the rules around can be made more friendly, so some additional products can be added, to retain all the AGOA beneficiary countries and to complement AGOA with measures such as investment and technical support and similar arrangements that can enable more medium sized firms on the African continent to access the American market."
