Rhythms of Africa is a Music Program on the SABC International Radio Station, Channel Africa, the Voice of the African Renaissance on frequencies 9625 on the 31 Metre Band to Southern Africa and 15255 kilohertz on the 19 metre band to Far West Africa. Also on internet: www.channelafrica.org.

The Music Program “Rhythms of Africa” is focusing on various music styles throughout the African Continent. It portrays various music idioms like African Choral/Classical; Afro-Pop/Soul; Afro-Jazz; African Traditional/Maskanda; Mbube/S’cathamiya and it features internationally acclaimed choirs like SA Singers, Gauteng Choristers, SABC Choir, African Chorus, University of Nairobi Choir, Papaya etc as well as artists like Salif Keita; Angelique Kidjo; Ismael Lo; Papa Wemba; Ricardo Lemvo; Zein Al Jundi; Elemotho Gaalelekwe; Khaled Hadj Brahim; Magic System; Gloria Bosman; Caiphus Semenya; Miriam Makeba; Yvonne Chaka Chaka; Sipho Hotstix Mabuse; Brenda Fassie; Letta Mbuli; African Jazz Pioneers; Johnny Clegg; Mfazomnyama; Mfiliseni Magubane; Phuzekhemisis; Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Durban Black Drifters; Mtuba Thulisa Brothers and many more. Budding artists are also given a platform, the idea behind the program is to develop, preserve and promote the rich multicultural talent of the African Continent through airplay and interviews of various artists and styles.

The Program educates, informs and entertains through music. In African societies music making is a necessity, not a luxury. Musical activities are an integral part of the society, music is one of the most important artistic creativities on the African Continent both instrumental and unaccompanied vocal performance. Tune in to Rhythms of Africa from Monday to Friday, 10h00 to11h00 and at 22h00 to 23h00 on weekends, Central African Time.
