Two years ago, a doctoral proposal was written in isiZulu language, leaving even the body of academics in South Africa completely shaken, sending much-needed shockwaves through the education system.

Experts say the use of African indigenous languages as languages of teaching and learning assessment could change the lives of indigenous language-speaking learners for the better, thus providing them with a platform to benefit from the fruits of South Africa's hard-fought freedom and democracy.

Professor Pamela Maseko from the National Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences in South Africa deliberates further....
