Learn more about the many characters in the Liliesleaf story, and the many liberation struggle stalwarts the farm sheltered:

Liliesleaf Farm was the headquarters of the underground anti-apartheid movement from 1961 until 11 July 1963  when Security Branch police raided the farm, concealed in a dry cleaner’s van. By nightfall, they had arrested 17 people for sabotage. The arrests led to the famous Rivonia Trial at which eight accused, including Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu, Govan Mbeki, Ahmed Kathrada, Denis Goldberg, Elias Motsoaledi, Andrew Mlangeni and Raymond Mhlaba, were sentenced to life imprisonment.  Nelson Mandela was already serving time in prison for a different charge.
