Date: Oct 22, 2018

HIV still a global burden that has so far claimed 35 million lives since it was detected in the 1980's and scientists are still battling to develop an effective HIV vaccine.

Gathering in Madrid, Spain, health experts and delegates around the world are deliberating on the advances around vaccine development and the challenges that remain.

The HIV Research for Prevention Conference opened on Sunday and will for the next few days reflect on how best to deal with the complex HIV epidemic, in the midst of no cure.

Shedding light on the purpose of the conference and latest vaccine trials is Georgia Tomaras, a professor in Surgery at Duke University in the United States.
