UNHCR says more than 10 million people across the world don't have a nationality

Date: Nov 27, 2015

The UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR, says that more than 10 million people across the world don't have a nationality and are considered 'stateless', leaving them unable to access their basic human rights.

The South African Parliament together with the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, yesterday , hosted the first of a two day conference looking at the role Parliaments can play in preventing statelessness. With more than 150 delegates from all over the world, the UNHCR is hoping that the conference will inform and inspire appropriate legislation and practical solutions to bring an end to statelessness.
