Mandela Children’s Hospital a living legacy

Date: Dec 2, 2016

Former statesman Nelson Mandela’s dream will come true Friday as a new Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital will be opened in Johannesburg.

Nelson Mandela's granddaughter Ndileka Mandela says the hospital will always be a living legacy, the former statesman had always wished for.

Mandela, was South Africa’s first post-apartheid president from 1994-1999, officially started the project in July 2009 at the site of an old cricket ground.

The hospital has brightly painted wards and colourful furnishings. After he led the struggle to dismantle apartheid, one of Mandela’s most cherished dreams was to build the first specialist paediatric hospital in South Africa.

The hospital has the state-of-the-art equipment and pioneering operating theatres.
