DRC Bishops withdraw from mediation talks

There are growing concerns that the political crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) could deepen further following a decision by Catholic Bishops to withdraw from mediation talks aimed at resolving political tensions in the country.

The Catholic Church became a facilitator between political parties after President Joseph Kabila failed to step down at the end of his constitutional mandate in December last year, after sixteen years in power.

Kabila has steadfastly refused to step down, despite the end of his constitutionally mandated tenure last year. Ramazani Pole-pole, DRC's political analyst discusses the Bishops' withdrawal from their mediation roles, and what it means for the peace talks..
