This continental parliament was established in 2004 as a consultative body to the African Union and its founding members said it would be given full legislative powers in five year. 
This parliament is however being dismissed as a toothless body. But its newly-elected President, Roger Nkodo Dang says his mission is to lead the transition of the parliament for it to tackle the challenges facing Africa:
