Zimbabwean President expected to declare this year's El Niño a disaster

Date: Apr 3, 2024

Zimbabwean President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, is expected to declare this year's El Niño induced drought a disaster as more than 2, 6 million people are already in urgent need of food assistance.

Women and children are the worst affected according to local media reports. Both rural and urban dwellers are affected and it is believed the address by Mnangagwa will give direction as to how the country will deal with the crisis.

This will help the country pave way for humanitarian crisis assistance to trickle into the country and save more than 2.6 million people, including 1.6 million children countrywide, who are projected to require urgent humanitarian assistance.

Zimbabwe is facing a food and nutrition crisis as well as the cholera outbreak.

In his address at the State House this morning,  Mnangagwa is expected to address those problems.

Currently, Malawi and Zambia have already declared the drought a disaster.
