World Health Organisation head oversees reforms to better global health emergencies in the future

Date: Aug 14, 2015

The head of the World Health Organisation has told the UN Security Council that she is personally overseeing reforms at the institution to better respond to global health emergencies in the future.

Dr Margaret Chan - addressing the Council via videolink from Hong Kong - was the lead expert asked to update the Security Council on the response and some of the lessons learned from the Ebola outbreak, described as the largest, longest and most severe ever known.
There was also some optimism that the outbreak could be over before the year's end with new cases still prevalent in two of the three worst-affected countries.  Sherwin Bryce-Pease reports.
