SA eyes UN Security Council seat

Date: Sep 19, 2016

South Africa's chief diplomat says it would be very strange if the country is not considered a front-runner for one of two proposed permanent seats on a reformed United Nations Security Council.

In a broad-ranging interview after traveling to New York from the Non Aligned Movement Summit in Venezuela, South Africa's International Relations Minister, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, says her country has never refused to serve when called upon to do so.

This as President Jacob Zuma met privately with Secretary General, Ban Ki moon, among a number of key bilaterals on his first full day in New York.
