South Africa's embattled police minister Senzo Mchunu - who's been placed on special leave - has challenged Kwazulu Natal Police Commissioner Lt General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi to produce evidence of wrong-doing on his part.

This follows new information presented by ...Mkhwanazi before Parliament's Ad Hoc Committee last week which included a letter from an inmate alleging corrupt links between Mchunu and alleged criminal cartel member, Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala.

In the letter it is also alleged that there was an attempt by Mchunu's lawyers to coerce Matlala into signing an affidavit denying he knew Mchunu. In an exclusive interview with the SABC, Mchunu says General Mkhwanazi should take whatever evidence he has to the Madlanga commission.

Five female suspected South African drug mules have been arrested on Saturday at Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport. Police say the suspects were found with drugs worth more than 291 thousand Dollars concealed inside their sneakers, underwear and private parts.

Preliminary reports indicate that the group was headed to China via Dubai. Police spokesperson, Amanda van Wyk, says the suspects are expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court tomorrow.

The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union(POPCRU)- in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa has welcomed the re-appointment of Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi as Provincial Police Commissioner.

POPCRU says the move comes at a crucial time as the province battles high levels of... violent crime and organised criminal networks. Mkhwanazi blew the whistle on allegations of corruption in the criminal justice system leading to the establishment of the Madlanga Comission.
