[NEWS]

Uganda's preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations are under fresh scrutiny. The East African nation is set to co-host the tournament alongside Kenya and Tanzania, but Confederation of African Football inspectors say its stadiums are not yet up to standard. in Kampala, ...the Mandela National Stadium is undergoing major renovations.

Engineers are planning significant upgrades, including seating improvements, structural work, and redesigning parts of the facility to meet international standards. In western Uganda, the Hoima Stadium is closer to completion. But inspectors have still flagged several gaps, from fan separation areas to media facilities and dressing rooms that are not yet compliant.

Further north, construction is ongoing at Aki Bua Stadium in Lira, which is expected to serve as a secondary venue. Uganda says delays are partly because of funding shortfalls and technical challenges, but they insist that work is picking up and all stadiums should be ready in time for the tournament.

CAF is expected to return later this year for another round of inspections, a visit that could be decisive in determining whether these venues will be ready and fit to host the games.
