Celtic beat Aces at home

Date: Dec 18, 2014

A brace from Frank Mhango handed Clinton Larsen his first win as Bloemfontein Celtic coach when they beat MP Black Aces 2-0 in a South Africa’s Absa Premiership match at Mbombela stadium on Wednesday night.

Aces were the better side in the opening half and dictated terms from the onset.

The home side created their first chance on goal in the fourth minute when Tshidiso Tukane let rip from distance, but saw his shot go narrowly wide of the target.

In the 15th minute Aubrey Ngoma went on a great individual run, beating five defenders on his way into the Celtic box, but his finishing let him down as he fired onto the woodwork with the keeper at his mercy.

On the half hour mark Ngoma was in the thick of the action, this time down the flank, but Collins Mbesuma failed to turn his low cross into the net and instead tapped the ball into the arms of the Celtic keeper.

Eight minutes later it was another poor finish that let Aces down when Tendai Ndoro fired wide from just inside the box.

Celtic offered very little in attack, but managed to get to the break locked at 0-0.

Whatever Clinton Larsen said to his charges at halftime it appeared to work as they came out firing.

In the 57th minute Celtic opened the scoring when Frank Mhango superbly turned home a cross from Thapelo Morena, 1-0.

Aces tried to get back into the match and came close in the 70th minute when Lehlohonolo Nonyane saw a long range effort brilliantly saved by the Celtic keeper.

The Phunya Sele Sele put the result beyond doubt in the 89th minute when Frank Mhango grabbed his second of the night after a terrible mix-up in defence saw him slot home from just inside the box, 2-0.
