We’re still in it: Bartlett

Date: May 13, 2016

University of Pretoria coach Shaun Bartlett remained defiant that his club will not be relegated despite slipping to the bottom of the South Africa’s Absa Premiership table on Wednesday.

Tuks were overtaken by Maritzburg United after being held to a 2-2 draw against Polokwane City at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The Team of Choice on the other hand overcame Ajax Cape Town 1-0 and in the process moved two points clear in 15th position. Jomo Cosmos are one point further clear after they were beaten 1-0 by Lamontville Golden Arrows.

Despite their destiny no longer in their own hands, Bartlett was still confident in their chances.

"I know it's going to go down to the wire,” he said. “Obviously all three teams are, in this moment of time, are still in it. We just have to make sure, that with the home game, we capitalise and win it.

“It's in our hands. We’ve just got to make sure of the three points. It's the only thing we go for.”

Tuks initially trailed in Polokwane, before taking the lead and then surrendering it within minutes allowing the home side a share of the spoils.

However, former Bafana Bafana frontman Bartlett praised his players for their spirit.

"I said before it was going to be difficult coming here, but once again the players showed we are up for the fight,” he added. “At least at this point in time it gives us an opportunity to fight for another day.”
