Draw procedures of the Official Draw confirmed

Date: Nov 24, 2016

The Organising Committee met at the Kazan Tennis Academy and approved the draw procedures of the Official Draw for the FIFA Confederations Cup.

The show, which will unveil the road to the coveted trophy of the Tournament of Champions, will take place at the same venue on Saturday 26 November and will be conducted by FIFA’s Deputy Secretary General for Football, Zvonimir Boban, and Chief Competitions & Events Officer, Colin Smith.
They will be assisted by five-time Russian Premier League winner Sergei Semak and two-time Olympic gold medallist Yelena Isinbaeva.

Hosts Russia and the three top teams based on the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking released earlier today (Germany, Chile and Portugal) will be in Pot 1, with the next four teams (Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and the African contender to be known in February) in Pot 2.
They will then be drawn one by one into two groups – A and B – and their position within Groups A and B will be determined by drawing balls from the respective group pots. A full explanation of the draw procedures can be found at the top of the related items on the right-hand side of this article.

At the same meeting, the Organising Committee members also approved the tournament’s regulations, which are now also available on FIFA.com. These regulations come into force with immediate effect, subject to the approval of the FIFA Council on 10 January 2017.
