The victory reinforces the SA singer-songwriter’s status as a global pop force

South Africa’s (SA) Tyla has won her second Grammy, clinching the Best African Music Performance Category, her second win in three years.

She won it for “Push-to-Start”, released as part of her debut album in 2024, with her music cited for blending Pop, R&B, and Amapiano.

With this win, Tyla became the first person to win the category twice since its inception in 2024.

Trevor Noah, this year’s Grammy host, missed out on the Grammy for Best Audio Book, Narration and Storytelling Recording for his children’s picture book “Into The Uncut Grass”, losing out to The Dalai Lama’s “Meditations”.

Push To Start’s win comes after its success last year at the MTV Video Music Awards, winning the 2025 AfroBeats Category.

Tyla beat out stiff competition this year that included Burna Boy, Davido featuring Omah Lay, Eddy Kenso and Mehran Matin and Ayrra Starr featuring Wizkid.

The victory reinforces the SA singer-songwriter’s status as a global pop force and coincided with the announcement that her highly anticipated second album, T2, was currently in development.
