The conference, which is Africa’s biggest gathering of energy policymakers, companies and investors, is being help in the city for the duration of this week. Mitchelle Mhaka from the African Climate Alliance says the group aims to highlight what it calls, the negative effects of fossil fuels to communities.
“It would be African Climate Alliance, Extinction Rebellion, Safsei, Project 2030, and the Climate Justice Coalition were the main organisers of the protest. We are challenging Africa Energy Week’s intention for fossil fuel expansion. We believe that it is doing more harm than good and that we should actually stop with any new fossil fuel projects and begin to really think deeply about a just energy transition and start working towards that,” Mhaka said.
