Chihana returns as Malawi’s second Vice President

Enoch Kanzingeni Chihana has been appointed Second Vice President of Malawi, marking his return to the country’s executive leadership.

The announcement was made by President Peter Mutharika from Capital Hill in Lilongwe and takes effect immediately.

Chihana is the leader of the Alliance for Democracy, the party founded by his father, Chakufwa Chihana, a key figure in Malawi’s pro-democracy movement. He previously served as a Member of Parliament for Rumphi Central and currently holds the position of Minister of Sports.

This is part of the first batch of Cabinet and senior government appointments released by President Mutharika, with several key ministries still to be filled as the reshuffle continues.
