Processes in place to return SA citizens who were detained by Israel officials 

South Africa’s (SA) International Relations Department has given the assurance that processes are under way to return the SA citizens who were on board the Flotilla to Gaza back home.

Over 100 activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla were deported to Turkiye after being intercepted and detained at sea, while trying to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.

They include the late former President Nelson Mandela’s grandson Mandla Mandela.

International Relations Department Spokesperson Chrispin Phiri says: “Our specialist, SA team met with the SA delegation who are currently detained in an Israeli prison facility.

The delegation has confirmed that the detainees are in good health and in high spirit. The necessary procedures for the safe passage and return home to SA are advancing steadily.
