Malawi’s opposition party launches election manifesto ahead of September elections

The event, held at Mjamba Freedom Park in Blantyre, drew thousands of supporters who gathered to hear from the party’s leader, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika. In his address, Mutharika outlined the DPP’s vision, focusing on economic revival, youth empowerment, and restoring what he described as “sound and stable governance.”

He criticised the current administration for what he called poor leadership and declining public confidence, pledging to restore trust in government institutions if voted back into power.

“We are ready to rebuild this country. The DPP has the experience and a clear plan to move Malawi forward,” Mutharika told the cheering crowd.

The DPP, which lost power in the 2020 presidential re-run, is banking on its legacy and widespread dissatisfaction with the Tonse Alliance government to galvanise support.
