The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has assured that there will be no interruptions ahead of the G20 Summit in South Africa (SA), despite ongoing challenges with non-functional traffic lights caused by vandalism and technical issues.

The agency has promised a seamless and safe experience for delegates arriving in Johannesburg as the city prepares to host the prestigious G20 Summit for Heads of State and Government later this year in the country’s economic hub.

Sipho Nhlapho, JRA’s Acting Head of Mobility, says teams are working around the clock to address any potential challenges.

“The city is ready for G20, not because of traffic lights. Continuously we maintain the traffic lights as a plan for us. It is not because of G20. It is because we have to maintain these traffic lights for the city. Now the relevance of G20 is not that much because if you look at the routes that are identified for dignitaries that will be moving to hotels and all, they are mostly provincial routes, not inner city roads or access roads,” Nhlapho explained.
