South Africa’s (SA) Free State province comes alive once again as the fifth annual Toyota Challenge kicks off this evening in Bloemfontein. The Toyota Cheetahs face Georgia’s Black Lion in what promises to be an exciting test of power and preparation.
Both teams are using the Toyota Challenge as a build-up to the upcoming European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR) tournament. For the Cheetahs, this is more than just a friendly match, it’s a crucial test of readiness.
Head Coach Frans Steyn says the team still has a few areas to refine before hitting top form. “The EPCR is coming ahead, but there are little things we need to fix, and hopefully put some emphasis. The Toyota has put in a lot of effort into this, and it is our responsibility as a team to sort out these issues and give everyone a chance,” he said.
