South Africa’s (SA) Banyana Banyana will be without their Mexican-based quartet Thembi Kgatlana, Hilda Magaia, Amogelang Motau, and Sinoxolo Cesane for the first leg of their 2026 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against the Democratic Republic Congo (DRC) this Wednesday.
The four players are expected to fly directly to Johannesburg and join the rest of the squad on Thursday upon their return from Central Africa.
These matches mark Banyana Banyana’s first appearance in three months, following their fourth-place finish at the WAFCON in Morocco, where they lost to Ghana. The SA team assembled for camp on Sunday before travelling to the DRC the same day. They have already held their first training session and will complete their final one today.
