The seventy-five year old is the first person of interest to take the stand in the third inquest into the 1985 killings of anti-apartheid activists, Matthew Goniwe, Fort Calata, Sparrow Mkonto and Sicelo Mhlauli underway in the Gqeberha High Court, in the Eastern Cape. Williamson, who was granted amnesty during the Truth and Reconciliation hearings for his part in the killings of of Ruth First, Jeanette Skoon and Skoon’s 8-year old daughter in the 1980s, says he had no part or knowledge in the killings of the Cradock four.
This despite, fellow Security branch member, Jaap Van Jaarsveld implicating him in his amnesty hearing, alleging he had been instructed by Williamson to plant a bomb in Goniwe’s home in 1984. Williamson is being cross examined by the Human rights commission’ s advocate Thembeka Ngcukaitobi, and this is how the interaction went.
“You were involved in the neutralization of Ruth First and the nuetralisation of Jeanette Skoon, who else were you involved in the neutralization of? Are you referring to specifics? You heard me I said individuals long ago just answer the question. I have idea if there were any specific individuals, there were obviously victims of cross boarder raids,” he said.
