Zimbabwe’s Highlanders receive second tranche of businessman’s $1 million pledge

Zimbabwe-based football giants Highlanders have received another $250 000 from businessman Wicknell Chivayo, as part of the $1million donation he pledged to the club four months ago.

The first instalment of $250 000 was paid in June, bringing the total amount disbursed so far to $500 000. Chivayo confirmed that the latest payment will go towards player welfare, recruitment, and administrative expenses.

According to Chivayo, the remaining $500 000 will be released in two further instalments, scheduled for December and February. However, he hinted that the balance could be paid earlier depending on the team’s performance.

Chivayo, a controversial businessman often described as a “tenderpreneur,” has made headlines for his lavish donations to sports and entertainment figures in Zimbabwe. His latest contribution has been welcomed by Highlanders’ supporters as a timely boost for the club’s operations.
