The SIU raided the home of businessman, Hangwani Maumela in Sandton, Johannesburg, yesterday, and seized assets including three luxury vehicles. Maumela is accused of securing contracts worth over $40 million Dollars from the hospital. OUTA Chief Executive, Wayne Duvenage says authority are off to a good start
“This is good, this is the type of stuff that we’ve been looking for. We’ve been looking for accountability but it goes well beyond what we see with regards to these seizures at Maumela’s house. This is one person, out of many and these are just assets being seized. So it’s a good start. But what we need to see is how this flows into the NPA charges, court and prison time. That’s what full accountability is, as well as seizing the assets. And then we need to find the people on the inside, that’s in the health department as well as politicians to really start undoing this network,” he said.
