Kenyan Catholic church introduces new altar wine to preserve sanctity of holy mass

The Catholic Church in Kenya has introduced a new brand of altar wine for use during Holy Mass, following concerns that the previous brand had become too widely available in local bars.

The new sacramental wine, simply labelled Mass Wine, features the coat of arms of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) and carries an official signature to certify its authenticity. Church leaders say the change aims to preserve the sanctity of the Eucharist and prevent misuse of the wine outside religious settings.

Many Catholic faithful have welcomed the move, saying the previous brand had lost its sacred value due to its widespread commercial sale.

Sacramental wine is used in Christian denominations during the Eucharist, or Holy Communion, to symbolise the blood of Jesus Christ, a tradition that dates back to the Last Supper.
