SA government condemns massacre of 50 people in Sudan

More than 50 people including 14 children and 15 women, have been killed in an attack on a displacement shelter in the besieged city in North Darfur. The Sudan Doctors’ Network said Sudanese paramilitaries were behind the shelling attack, which also wounded another 21 people, including five more children. Minister Ronald Lamola has called on all the parties in Sudan to start opening up the channels of engagement.

“The attacks on civilians were in a camp which is supposed to be a peaceful site of safety. If you are also followed on that camp where you are supposed to be safe, protected by international human rights law, international humanitarian law. So it means there is no safety for any civilian. We condemn that action by the Rapid Support Forces and also call on all the parties in Sudan to start opening up the channels of engagement,”
