South Africa’s (SA) National Dialogue process has reached another milestone with the completion of nominations for sectoral representatives to serve on the National Dialogue Steering Committee.
The move follows the inaugural National Convention held on August 15 and 16, where delegates endorsed the committee’s mandate, responsibilities and composition. A total of 26 sectors have now submitted their nominees to take part in the next phase of the dialogue.
According to Presidential Spokesperson Vincent Magwenya, the list of nominees has been handed to the Eminent Persons Group (EPG) for review. The EPG will, in turn, submit its recommendations to President Cyril Ramaphosa for final approval.
“The EPG will submit its recommendations to the President in his role as Head of State and convener of the National Dialogue for finalisation. Once approved by the President, the Steering Committee will co-ordinate the rollout of public dialogues across the country,” Magwenya said.
The National Dialogue aims to bring together stakeholders from various sectors of society to address key challenges facing SA and build consensus on the country’s future direction.
