A report in the Washington Post says United States (US) President Donald Trump’s plan to overhaul the country’s refugee resettlement process would largely see accommodations made for white Afrikaner South Africans (SA).
According to the publication’s review of documents, the plan would see a drastic reduction in overall annual admissions but with a concerted effort to prepare thousands of white SA for relocation to the US at the expense of other refugees around the world.
If successful, the Washington Post reports that as many as 7000 out of a total pool of 7500 admissions would be set aside for Afrikaners.
The refugee camp of 125 000 admissions annually under the previous Biden administration, including refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Afghanistan, has since been shelved under President Trump.
The Post report followed a recent New York Times piece that the Trump administration was considering a radical overhaul of the US refugee system that would slash the programme to its bare bones while giving preference to English speakers, white SA and Europeans who opposed migration.
