South Africa’s (SA) Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Blade Nzimande, has sounded the alarm on the persistence of poverty across the continent, warning that it is being passed from one generation to the next.
Speaking at the Human Sciences Research Council and National Research Foundation’s Engaged Research Conference in eastern Gauteng, Nzimande argued that global economic and technological systems often favour the wealthy, reinforcing cycles of inequality.
“Despite major advances in science and technology, inequality continues to deepen worldwide, and Africa remains particularly vulnerable to these dynamics,” he said.
His address highlighted the urgent need for inclusive policies and innovation strategies that can break the cycle of intergenerational poverty.
