Mali shuts schools, universities as fuel shortage deepens

Mali has suspended all schools and universities nationwide due to a severe fuel shortage triggered by a blockade on fuel imports imposed by Islamist insurgents.

Education Minister Amadou Sy Savane announced on state television that all education institutions will remain closed until November 9, citing the impact of the blockade on the movement of teachers and students. He assured the public that authorities are “doing everything possible” to resolve the crisis and resume classes on November 10.

The country has faced acute fuel shortages for weeks, particularly in the capital, Bamako, after militants linked to al-Qaeda began attacking fuel tankers on key transport routes, disrupting supplies and crippling daily life.
