Authorities in Kenya have launched investigations into a light aircraft crash

Authorities in Kenya have launched investigations into a light aircraft crash that claimed the lives of ten European tourists and a Kenyan pilot on Tuesday.

The plane, operated by Mombasa Air Safari, went down shortly after take-off from the coastal resort town of Diani, as it headed for the Masai Mara game reserve. Officials said the aircraft crashed about 10 kilometres from Kwale town, near the Indian Ocean coastline.

All 11 people on board, eight Hungarian nationals, two Germans, and the Kenyan pilot, were killed.

Investigators say the cause of the crash has not yet been determined, though heavy rain and misty conditions were reported in the area at the time.

In a statement, Mombasa Air Safari said its immediate focus was on supporting the families of those who lost their lives.

The Masai Mara is one of Kenya’s most popular tourist destinations, drawing thousands of visitors each year for its rich wildlife and annual wildebeest migration.
