Southern African Development Community (SADC) says it is confident that Tanzania is holding peaceful, transparent, and credible elections

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) says it is confident that Tanzania is holding peaceful, transparent, and credible elections today, as citizens go to the polls for the October 29, 2025, General Elections. The vote will decide the President, Members of Parliament, and local government councillors.

SADC’s Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM), deployed at the invitation of the Tanzanian government and led by The Right Honourable Richard Msowoya, is monitoring the pre-election period, polling, and post-election processes in line with the 2021 SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections.

According to SEOM, Tanzania’s long-standing tradition of stability and democratic governance provides a strong foundation for a credible electoral process. The mission has called on all eligible voters to participate fully and urged political leaders and supporters to respect the outcome and follow legal channels for resolving any disputes.

SADC says that successful and transparent elections today will strengthen democracy, foster national unity, and chart a path to prosperity in the United Republic of Tanzania.
