Despite limited preparations and leaving just four days before their opening match against Bolivia, Amajimbos head coach Vela Khumalo is confident in the quality of his squad.
The South African (SA) U17 national team departed for Qatar last night, marking the country’s third appearance in this age category at the men’s FIFA World Cup. Preparations have been constrained, largely due to funding challenges, but Khumalo believes the players’ talent will shine on the global stage.
“We are excited that we are on our way to Qatar, and we want to thank the association for helping us through,” Khumalo said. “Hopefully, we will make the country very proud. It was very important for us to take these young ones and expose them to the World Cup stage.”
The Amajimbos face Bolivia in their first group match, with expectations high for the young squad to gain valuable experience on the world stage.
