South Africa’s (SA) Parliament has hosted the relaunch of the SA TB Caucus, in conjunction with the Health Department and the SA National Aids Council
Tuberculosis remains one of the deadliest, yet curable diseases, globally. In the last year, SA has seen some 270 000 new TB infections and more than 50 000 TB deaths. The World Health Organisation has set the target of 2030 to bring the TB epidemic to an end. Health Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi, called on MPs to ensure that this initiative gains momentum.
“We are reforming it again, asking MPs not to let it disappear again. We have the end TB campaign where we are testing 5 million people for TB annually, that you must test and treat every year. This is a mammoth of a task,” he said.
