According to the SA Depression and Anxiety Group Report, 52% of surveyed employees have been diagnosed with mental health conditions. Legal Expert, Chantell de Gouveia explains how employers should address these issues.
“Employees are urged to be alive to issues of poor mental health, and similarly, employees must understand that they have an opportunity to speak up, and this week encourages that, an open dialogue. And we are seeing quite a huge influx of these cases in, you know, the practical sense. So what we are experiencing quite a lot is something called burnout, and often, cases that will affect an employee’s productivity in the workplace. And we are seeing quite a huge influx of poor performance cases which are actually directly related to incapacity or poor mental health,” she said.
