AI-powered fintech company Optasia has officially joined the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), marking the biggest fintech listing since 2018 and the largest of its kind on the local bourse.
The company leverages artificial intelligence to extend small loans and airtime credit to people without access to traditional banking services, supporting broader financial inclusion across emerging markets.
JSE Director of Capital Markets, Valdene Reddy, welcomed the listing, calling it a significant milestone for both the exchange and South Africa’s fintech landscape.
“So, this is really financial infusion through a fintech play. At the JSE we are so excited to welcome an African company, and we believe we have a lot to showcase for them to enable their growth in their next chapter of success. We have deep and liquid capital markets, so to see this momentum of this listing in our market is really a huge milestone,” said Reddy.
