A senior official from Zambia’s opposition Patriotic Front (PF) has taken President Hakainde Hichilema to court, accusing him of launching a constitutional review process without following the country’s legal procedures.

The PF leader, who also serves as Secretary for the Tonse Alliance coalition, argues that the Hichilema acted unilaterally in setting up a reform process that should have been subjected to wider parliamentary and public scrutiny.

The government recently appointed a special committee to collect views from citizens across all ten provinces. Public consultations are already underway, with the team expected to compile its findings for submission to the Ministry of Justice later this year.

Opposition parties have criticised the move, claiming it undermines the principles of transparency and accountability. They insist that any changes to the constitution must be guided by inclusive national dialogue rather than executive decree.
