Zimbabwe’s governing ZANU-PF Party has dismissed claims that it is targeting opposition politician, Job Sikhala following his arrest for alleged possession of commercial explosives in South Africa (SA)

Rights groups and opposition figures has described his arrest as a set up by Zanu-PF for his criticism of the ruling party. Sikhala will be appearing in a Pretoria court today with his uncle.

His arrest comes less than a year after his release from prison in Zimbabwe, where he was held for allegedly inciting public violence. ZANU-PF Spokesperson, Farai Marapira says the facts of the matter are simple.

“What you’re being exposed to is the usual run-of-the-mill of Zimbabwean opposition. They will commit a crime and try to sensationalize it with politics to try and clean themselves up.

But I believe that, as always, the law is very clear. The law will always deal with people that transgress against it. So the opposition can continue to be sensational and they can continue to try and fool as many people as possible, but the truth is the truth and the truth is stubborn and the SA police shall discover and expose the truth and this is all that we’re concerned with as Zanu-PF,” he said.
