The unemployment in South Africa (SA) is expected to have remained at elevated levels in the third quarter of 2025 as the economy continues on a weak growth trajectory.

The second quarter official unemployment number rose to 33.2%, up from 32.9% registered in the first quarter.
The expanded unemployment rate – including those who have given up looking for work was at 42.9%.

Statistics SA will release the third quarter data on Tuesday.

The weak economic growth negatively impacts jobs creation prospects.

The local economy is expected to grow at 1.2% for this year, due to unfavourable global conditions and structural constraints.
Young people also remain a vulnerable group in the labour market.
Second quarter data showed that unemployment for young people aged between 15 and 34.
