Former Botswana President Ian Khama has openly criticised some African leaders

Former Botswana President Ian Khama has openly criticised some African leaders for what he described as “seizing power,” singling out Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan as illegitimate.

Speaking at the second anniversary of Pan-Africanism celebrations at Lukenya University in Kenya, Khama said he does not recognise President Suluhu as Tanzania’s rightful leader.

Khama’s remarks have drawn mixed reactions across the region, with some observers viewing them as a rare public challenge to leadership transitions in Africa. Others have cautioned that such statements could strain diplomatic relations between Botswana and Tanzania.
