Former Malawian President Dr Bakili Muluzi has announced that he is withdrawing from efforts to mediate

Former Malawian President Dr Bakili Muluzi has announced that he is withdrawing from efforts to mediate between the Zambian government and the family of the late former Zambian President Edgar Lungu.

Muluzi had been leading a mediation team tasked with facilitating the repatriation of Lungu’s body from Pretoria to Lusaka. He expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, including religious leaders and the South African government, for their support in trying to reach an agreement.

The mediation team decided to withdraw after failing to find a conclusive way forward. Muluzi said the matter is now being handed back to the family, the Zambian people, the government, and other involved parties.
