South Africa’s (SA) Cricket Captain, Temba Bavuma, won the toss and chose to bat first on the first morning of the first test against India at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Friday

SA’s pace spearhead, Kagiso Rabada, was ruled out of the match with a rib injury incurred during training before the match and has been replaced by Corbin Bosch in the starting XI.

All-rounder Wiaan Mulder retains his place at number three and fast bowling all-rounder Marco Jansen is preferred to the third spinner, Senuran Muthusamy giving the tourists three seamers and two spinners. India, however, have opted for three specialist spinners and just two seamers with off-spinner Washington Sundar selected to bat at number three and left armers Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja at six and seven. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj will provide the pace.
