Zimbabwe’s Warriors brought an end to their extended winless spell on Monday evening, edging Qatar 2–1 in an international friendly at the Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Stadium.
The match was only the second in charge for new Romanian coach Marian Marinica, whose debut last week ended in a 3–1 defeat to Algeria. In a bid to shake things up, Marinica named an entirely different starting XI from the side that featured on 13 November.
The win, Zimbabwe’s first of the year across all competitions, offers a much-needed lift for the squad as they turn their attention to preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
