South Africa (SA) is bracing for a wave of anti-Gender-Based Violence (GBV) demonstrations on Friday as women’s organisations mobilise across the country.
In Pretoria, Gauteng Province, women, children, and members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, community will gather at the Union Buildings, where participants will lie down for 15 minutes in memory of the lives lost due to GBV.
Protestors are calling for GBV to be formally included on the G20 Summit agenda this weekend.
Meanwhile, at Sol Plaatjie University in Kimberley, Northern Cape Province, women are staging their own demonstration, standing in solidarity against rising femicide rates and what they describe as persistent failures within the justice system.
