South Africa’s (SA) Premier Soccer League (PSL) says it has noted progress in plans to introduce Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology into SA football, but key information is still outstanding before the league can fully engage in final discussions.
The project has now moved into a technical phase, which includes securing final quotations for hardware, software and operational costs. National Treasury has already confirmed an initial allocation of more than 2 million United States Dollars to support the rollout of VAR in the current financial year.
PSL Chairperson Irvin Khoza says they welcome the progress and the Ministry’s intentions as consultations continue.
