South Africa (SA)-based striker Losika Ratshukudu has been handed his first senior national call-up after Botswana released a 36-man provisional squad for next month’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Morocco.
Ratshukudu, still in his teens, has been on the radar since helping Cape Town side Ubuntu win the Bayhill tournament earlier this year. He has represented Botswana at youth level, and his elevation to the senior side caps a breakthrough season. The squad will be cut to 23 players before the December 11 deadline.
Coach Morena Ramorebodi has named several players currently competing in North Africa, among them Tumisang Orebonye of Wydad Casablanca and Kabelo Seakanyeng of Maghreb Fes.
Also included is former Kaizer Chiefs defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, now with Al Ittihad in Libya, along with veteran goalkeeper Kabelo Dambe, who plays for Township Rollers in Gaborone.
The Zebras are expected to ramp up preparations in the coming weeks as they finalise their squad for the continental tournament.
